Pinnawala

Pinnawala is a popular tourist destination located in the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka, known for its famous elephant orphanage. The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was established in 1975 to provide care and protection for orphaned elephants found in the wild. Today, it is home to over 80 elephants and is one of the largest elephant orphanages in the world. Visitors can watch the elephants being fed, bathing in the nearby river, and even join in on the fun by helping to bathe the baby elephants.

Aside from the elephant orphanage, Pinnawala is also known for its beautiful botanical gardens. The gardens were established in the early 19th century and cover an area of 59 acres. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and admire the various plants, flowers, and trees that are on display. Additionally, Pinnawala is a great place to learn about Sri Lankan culture and history, with many temples and traditional villages located in the area. Overall, Pinnawala is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Sri Lanka, particularly for those interested in wildlife and nature.
