Udawalawe National Park is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Located in the south-central part of the island, the park covers an area of 30,821 hectares and is home to a diverse range of animals, including elephants, leopards, crocodiles, monkeys, and various bird species.
The park is known for its large population of elephants, and visitors have the opportunity to observe them up close on a jeep safari. The park is also home to a number of other mammals, including wild buffaloes, sambar deer, and spotted deer.
In addition to wildlife viewing, Udawalawe National Park offers stunning scenery, with rolling hills, grasslands, and a large reservoir surrounded by forests. The park is also home to several ancient ruins, including the Buduruwagala Temple, which dates back to the 10th century
Visitors can take a guided tour of the park to learn more about its diverse ecosystem and the animals that call it home. The park is open year- round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season from May to September, when the animals congregate around the water sources.
